How to Enable Dark Mode in Chrome and Firefox on Mac or Windows PC

Note: For this, you will have to make sure to have the latest version of Chrome and Firefox.

Step #1: Firstly, open Chrome/Firefox on your Mac or Windows PC.

Step #2: Head over to YouTube at www.youtube.com.

Step #3: Next you will need to open the developer menu. To do so, follow the below steps:

  • On Mac Keyboard

Press Option(⌥)+Command(⌘)+I on Mac

If you are using Windows Keyboard (On Mac),  press Windows+Alt+I

  • On Windows PC

Press Ctrl+Shift+I or F12

Step #4: Click on the Console tab.

Step #5: Paste the following

document.cookie=”VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=fPQ4jCL6EiE; path=/”

In case the code mentioned above is not working, try out the code given below. This command for activating Dark Mode works in Firefox as well. The web browser might warn you to not change the root path as it makes your system prone to hijacking attacks.

In case you face an error while pasting code in Mozilla Firefox, just type allow pasting and hit the enter key. Next, paste the text given below:

Hit the enter key again. You are done!

Step #6: Close the developer window and refresh the page.

Step #7: Click on your profile icon at the top right corner. If you are not logged into your YouTube account, click on the three-dot icon at the top right corner.

Then, click on Dark Mode.

Step #8: Now, you will need to click on the switch next to Activate Dark Mode to enable it.

You are finally done! You will notice that the entire YouTube sections have turned dark making it a lot convenient and soothing to view.

How to Disable Dark Mode in YouTube in Chrome/Firefox on Mac and Windows PC

Step #1: Open your YouTube in Chrome/Mozilla Firefox on your Mac or Windows PC.

Step #2: You will need to click on your profile at the top right corner like we did before. If you are not logged into your YouTube account, click on the three-dot icon at the top right corner.

Step #3: Click on Dark Mode.

Step #4: Finally, turn off the switch next to Activate Dark Mode.

That’s it. You have disabled the Dark Mode option.

Note: Please note that all the settings will reset once you close/reopen your browser.
